Job Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for coordinating and supervising maintenance activities to ensure that production equipment, machinery, utilities, and facilities remain safe, reliable, and available for production. The role leads the maintenance team in preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance while helping to minimize downtime and improve overall equipment performance.

Job Details

Maintenance Supervisor shall be responsible for:

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise daily maintenance activities to ensure that production equipment, machinery, and plant facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
  • Provide clear directions to maintenance technicians and other associates, ensuring that all assigned tasks are completed safely, accurately, and within the required timelines, while supporting the plant’s Safety, Quality, and Reliability objectives.
  • Coordinate and enforce the equipment lubrication program through line technicians, ensuring that all machinery is lubricated according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Plan and communicate daily maintenance activities, prioritizing jobs based on production requirements, equipment condition, safety considerations, and operational priorities.
  • Oversee the daily setup and readiness of machinery and equipment before production starts, ensuring that equipment is properly inspected and fit for safe and efficient operation.
  • Ensure compliance with established maintenance program, company policies, food safety requirements, and regulatory standards, supporting the production of safe and quality products.
  • Support the development, implementation, and auditing of the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program, identifying opportunities to improve equipment reliability and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Ensure scheduled preventive maintenance is completed on all relevant plant equipment in line with OEM recommendations and approved schedules, including daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance activities.
  • Supervise, coach, and support maintenance technicians in the performance of their duties, providing guidance, feedback, and performance reviews to encourage accountability, technical development, and teamwork.
  • Identify and prepare spare-parts requirements for production and maintenance equipment, ensuring that critical spares are available when needed and submitting requests to the appropriate procurement function.
  • Raise and manage maintenance-related purchase requisitions in SAP, ensuring that required materials, spare parts, and services are properly requested and tracked.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene, workplace cleanliness, and housekeeping, ensuring that maintenance activities do not compromise plant safety, food safety, or production standards.
  • Lead the diagnosis and resolution of mechanical breakdowns, working closely with technicians and production teams to restore equipment to normal operation as quickly and safely as possible.
  • Ensure that breakdown reports are prepared for equipment stoppages exceeding 20 minutes, capturing the nature of the failure, corrective action taken, downtime, and other relevant information.
  • Ensure root-cause analysis is conducted for recurring or significant equipment breakdowns and follow up on corrective and preventive actions to minimize repeat failures.
  • Review technicians’ daily duty logs and maintenance records, ensuring that completed activities, equipment conditions, outstanding issues, and follow-up actions are properly documented.
  • Monitor maintenance and calibration activities, ensuring that equipment requiring calibration is attended to according to the approved schedule and that records are properly maintained.
  • Provide regular reports to the Maintenance Manager on major maintenance activities, equipment breakdowns, preventive maintenance progress, calibration status, spare-parts requirements, and other significant maintenance issues.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality, Engineering, and other relevant departments to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize disruption to production.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance practices, equipment reliability, safety, cost efficiency, and overall plant performance.

Requirements

Skills and Attributes Required:

  • Knowledge of food safety & quality management systems (IS0 9001, ISO 2200, HACCP)
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data
  • Effective communication and report writing skills.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills; to lead, work with and manage a team.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Power Point.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • The ability to understand, follow, and apply policies, practices, and operating procedures.
  • A conscious SAFETY champion at all levels of operation.

 

Qualification:

  • Minimum degree in Mechanical Engineering or related.
  • A minimum of 7 years relevant work experience.
  • An exposure to an FMCG manufacturing company a plus.
