Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Clearing Supervisor or their designate, the Clearing Officer is responsible for supporting the execution of customs clearance and port operations for imports and exports within Ghana, particularly at Tema, for Kasapreko PLC and its affiliated companies.
Job Details
The Clearing Officer shall be responsible for:
- Prepare, process, and verify all customs documentation required for import and export clearance (e.g., invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, permits, and certificates).
- Coordinate with clearing agents, shipping lines, port authorities, and regulatory bodies to facilitate timely clearance of consignments.
- Track shipments from arrival to final clearance and delivery, ensuring adherence to timelines.
- Assist in resolving customs-related issues, including delays, discrepancies, and documentation errors.
- Ensure compliance with Ghana Customs regulations, including proper classification, valuation, and duty payments.
- Support efforts to achieve zero demurrage, detention, and storage charges through proactive follow-ups.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all clearance transactions and documentation.
- Liaise with internal departments (procurement, warehouse, finance) to ensure smooth coordination of logistics activities.
- Monitor and update shipment status reports and escalate issues to the supervisor when necessary.
- Assist in the preparation of logistics and clearance reports, including cost tracking and performance metrics.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Stay informed on updates to customs procedures, port operations, and trade regulations.
- Support audits by providing required documentation and ensuring proper record-keeping.
Requirements
Skills and Attributes Required:
- Basic working knowledge of Ghana Customs procedures and systems (GCNet/ICUMS).
- Understanding of import/export documentation and clearance processes.
- Familiarity with Incoterms, duties, tariffs, and shipping procedures is an advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- High level of integrity and willingness to learn.
- A conscious SAFETY champion at all levels of operation.
Qualification:
- Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–4 years’ post national service experience.
- Valid Ghanaian driver’s license is an advantage.
